On Eventide of May

Do harken now ye maids I tell a tale
Of Beltane fire and that which came of me
Well met was I on eventide of May
Forever now I must enchanted be

In innocence I went into the wood
Drawn nigh unto the Beltane fire bright
Well met was I on eventide of May
And wond’rous what my eyes beheld that night

I saw him grow from deep within the fire
From burning oaken flame and throbbing drum
Well met was I on eventide of May
And wond’rous of his eyes which fixed me there

No earthly lover’s hand could feign his touch
Awakening in me passions never known
Well met was I at eventide of May
And wond’rous of his lips which seared my own

Our bodies twined in passionate embrace
True lover’s knowt which ne’er can be undone
Well met were we on eventide of May
In powers of the earth and of the sun

So strong a spell was worked that fateful eve
That for his touch forever do I yearn
Well met was I on eventide of May
And for his love forever do I burn

Do harken ye sweet maidens to my tale
And learn a lesson well from my sad fate
Well met was I on eventide of May
And ever doomed to wander Faery’s Gate

‘Tis fate to all so touched by Faery hand
To walk two worlds forever and a day
No comfort can I take from humankind
Well met was I on eventide of May
